Bariloche (Argentina) ---13 Jan 2006

This morning our local guide, Roberto, gave us a sort introductory talk and led us on a walking tour of
Bariloche including visits to the Civic Center, the uncompleted Cathedral, and the Patagonia Museum.
Bariloche was settled late in the 19th century mainly by Swiss and German dairy farmers. The town
is located along the hilly shore of an attractive lake, and is surrounded by mountains, some with
snow-covered peaks. Bariloche has developed into a popular winter vacation area featuring winter
sports and beautiful scenery. Although it is now Summer in Argentina, Bariloche still is a nice place
to visit. There seems to be an effort to give the town an alpine look. Bariloche is also noted for its
chocolates; we saw at least a dozen chocolate shops.

After lunch in a restaurant near our hotel Virginia and I took a walk along the landscaped waterfront
and visited an indoor ice-skating rink, a large outdoor swimming pool and a couple of parks.

In the evening Virginia and I went up to the large pool on the top floor of the hotel and enjoyed a
swim in the warm water.
