Bariloche to Buenos Aires --- 14 Jan 2006
|
From Bariloche we took an 800-mile (1400km) two-hour flight northeast to Buenos Aires, the
capital and largest city in Argentina, where we arrived about 7:00pm. At the airport we were
met by our local guide, Carla, the best guide we had during our tour; she was enthusiastic, funny,
knowledgeable, informative, and aware that on a tour bus occasional silence is a good thing.
View from plane as we were leaving Bariloche. Town is on the
lakeshore, the snow-covered Andes in the background
The tour group checked into the Elevage Hotel, a good hotel with an excellent location in
central Buenos Aires, less than two blocks from Calle Florida, the mile-long pedestrian street,
and within walking distance of many of the city's attractions. Virginia and I took an evening
walk on the Calle Florida, lined with interesting shops and free entertainment provided by
street performers.
