"Capital Days" in Vilnius, Lithuania
|
From our hotel room window we could see the happenings on a stage in the street below:
performances by various musical and dance groups, fashion shows featuring traditional
Lithuanian attire, bands, German organ-grinders, etc. This went on all day, and we often
went down to the street to get closer to the action. Near the stage and along the street there
were many outdoor stands selling Lithuanian snacks, handicrafts and artwork.

A highlight of the "Capital Days" celebration was to see the beautifully masked and costumed
dancers as they paraded down Gedimino Prospektas from our hotel to Cathedral Square.
Below are photos of some of the performers.
The annual "Capital Days" festivities are to celebrate the departure of the last Russian
troops from Lithuania in 1993. We were very fortunate that to be in Vilnius during this
joyful celebration.
