Central India Trip Comments

Our Indian journey got off to a good start with a pleasant overnight sleeper train from
Mumbai to Aurangabad, our base for visits to the very interesting Ajanta and Elora Caves,
which we highly recommend.
The next stay was in Hyderabad, where we went on moderately interesting excursions to
Ramoji Film City and other tourist attractions in and around the city. The very heavy loud,
chaotic and dangerous Hyderabad traffic was stressful and made it almost impossible for us
to cross any street. Not finding a pleasant restaurant contributed to our early departure.
We we had an extremely enjoyable stay in Hampi, a very wonderful large archaeological site
with several magnificent temples and palaces, as well as a very large number of beautiful
minor temples. We very much liked our random walks and every few minutes discovering
still another beautiful architectural structure or other surprise. We loved staying in
Hampi Bazaar, a very pleasant small village in the midst of archaeological wonders. Hampi
still today an important religious center, visited daily by many hundreds of devout Hindu
pilgrims. Hampi was the highlight of our Central India journey.
During our five or six previous trips to India we experienced most of the leading attractions
in that amazing country. We decided to journey there again, to Central India where we had
not visited before.
Next came the worst part of our journey, the trip by sleeper bus from Hampi to Goa. An
unforgettable experience.
Goa was a pleasant relaxing place to be but no better than many beach resorts
much closer to home, but different. Most of the people we met in Goa's beach areas were
interesting European tourists. We were reminded that Goa is not India.
On our way home we and other passengers transiting at London's Heathrow Airport were
treated very poorly by the airline, Virgin Atlantic. Without an explanation or apology
their scheduled connection failed to connect. We and our fellow transiting passengers were
without consideration or compensation crudely abandoned in Heathrow Airport by the
airline until the following day. After returning home I complained to Virgin Atlantic about
the way we were treated at Heathrow and we eventually were reimbursed for our hotel and
breakfast expenses.
Our Central India trip was not always fun but it wasn't always bad. We most enjoyed
Hampi and the caves at Ajanta Elora.
