England --- 1976
After about ten days in Ireland we took the ferry across the Irish Sea to Holyhead,  in
northwestern Wales.  From there we took a train along the northern coast of Wales, passing the
huge Caerfon Castle, some villages with unpronounceable (and unspellable) names, and several
beaches with many trailers parked in adjoining fields.  After about two hours on the train we
arrived at the English town of Chester, where we enjoyed staying for a day or two.

From Chester we went by train to the village of Windermere in the Lake District, a scenic English
vacation area near the Scottish border.   The Lake District is truly beautiful, rolling hills with green
fields dotted by white sheep,  several large lakes, picturesque villages, lightly traveled country
roads, and many nice walking paths.  The area served as the home of several outstanding authors.  We
had interesting walks to visit the former homes of Beatrix Potter, Samuel Coleridge, and William
Wordsworth.

We enjoyed a relaxed week or so in the Lake District.  It was a pleasant area to be in.  We walked
on many of the beautiful paths connecting charming villages, and visited the former homes of noted
writers, as well as restaurants and pubs.

From the Lake District we took a train to London, and there got on a flight to New York.
