Fatehpur Sikri
About five hours after leaving Jaipur our tour bus arrived at Fatehpur Sikri,
founded  as the capital of the Mughal empire in 1571 but abandoned within fifteen
years because of a lack of sufficient water.  The capital then was moved to Agra,
about 25 miles (40 Km) to the east.
Fatehpur Sikri today remains as a well maintained Indo-Islamic archaeological site
including a beautiful large mosque, a royal complex, and mausoleums.  Below are
views of the abandoned capital.
After an hour or two in Fatehpur Sikri we continued about 25 miles (40 Km) to
Agra.
