From Hyderabad to Hampi 23 and 24 January 2008
|
From Hyderabad our goal was to get to Hampi, noted for its magnificent archaeological
sites. That trip involved an overnight train from Hyderabad about 300km (200 miles)
southeast to the town of Hospet, and then a half hour ride by bus or taxi to the village of
Hampi Bazaar.
On 23 January we took a taxi to Hyderabad's Kacheguda railway station for train 7603
leaving at 9:15pm. We had an uneventful overnight trip in a class 2A sleeping car, arriving
in Hospet next morning around 7:00am. The fare after our 30% senior discount came to
Rs. 1186 (US$32) for the two of us. At the Hospet station we engaged an autorickshaw taxi
to take us to a restaurant in Hospet for breakfast (we were starving!), and to then continue
to the village of Hampi Bazaar. The total taxi fare came to about US$3.
The first night in Hampi Bazaar we stayed at the Padma Guest House at a rate of Rs. 1500
(US$40) but next morning moved a few doors down the street to the similar Rahul Guest
House who offered us a rate of only Rs. 600 (US$16, but maybe around US$18 after we
paid the guest house for "extras" such as toilet paper, soap, mosquito coils, etc.).
