India From the Himalayas to the Sea
Introduction
In early 2003 Virginia and I traveled for three weeks on our fourth visit to India.  We flew
to Delhi and from there
by train and three-wheeled motorickshaw travelled to the Buddhist
shrines in Rishikesh, in the foothills of the Himalayas.  Then to the Hindu pilgrimage sites in
nearby Haridwar.  Next came a long train ride to the fortified town of Gwalior in central
India.  From Gwalior we went by train and bus to the charming small town of Orcha, a journey
of about three hours.  From Orcha we took a motorickshaw to nearby Jhansi to take the
train-ride of almost 24 hours to the seaside city of Mumbai (Bombay).  The next day by train
to the Matheran hill station.  A few days later we went by train and taxi to Mumbai
International Airport for the flight home, ending our three-week journey.
You will note that there are no photos of this trip until our arrival in Orcha.  We have not
yet found the missing photos but when we do we'll insert them in the pages of this journal.
