Kota Kinabalu --- 14 to 16 June
A short morning flight from Sandakan got us to Kota Kinabalu, the capital of the state of
Sabah.  From the airport we left on a city tour featuring a visit to the Monsopiad
Cultural Village, a small group of buildings displaying the traditional life of the Kadazan,
the largest tribal group in Sabah.  At the Center we also were treated to a music and
dance show.
The Kota Kinabalu city tour also included views of two beautiful Mosques, the Sabah
Museum, and other attractive buildings.  We also made a stop at a "water village" built on
stilts over the water, and another stop at a market.

We also made a brief stop at a Chinese Temple.  Malaysia has a large minority of Chinese
living in the country.

Then we checked into the Magellan Sutera Hotel, a very large luxurious waterfront resort
complex nicely landscaped and offering many recreational facilities.  We had a good lunch
at the hotel and enjoyed a swim in one of its pools.
The following day we spent several enjoyable hours at the Sabah Museum Complex,
consisting of the Sabah Museum, the Science Center, and the Islamic Center.  All had
excellent collections, well presented.
