Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania
After our visit to Martin's home near Gibb's Farm on 15 October we drove for a couple of hours to
the Ngorongoro Crater, where we checked into the Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge, built on the rim
of the crater.  Through the picture window/door of our room and from our balcony we had a
magnificent view of the crater.  It has a diameter of about twelve miles, and several hundred feet
below the rim is the flat interior of the crater.  The crater attracts much  wildlife as there constantly
is water in parts of the sunken crater.

In the afternoon Edwin presented a lecture outlining the history, geography, and culture of
Tanzania.  Just before dinner we enjoyed a dance performance in the Lodge's bar.
The following morning, 16 October, we drove down into the crater to view wildlife there, including
many zebras, wildebeests, gazelles, warthogs, elephants, a couple of lions, two jaguars, etc.    After a
picnic lunch in the crater we returned to the hotel around 4:30pm.

Ngorongoro Crater is an extremely popular tourist attraction.  We saw many safari vans including th
those of the following tour operators:  Leopard Tours, Simba Safaris, Warner Safaris, Kibo,
Shidolya Tours, Kabu Safaris, Kaibu Africa Safaris, Ultimate Safaris, Savannah Tours, Cordial
Tours, Takims Holidays, Good Earth Tours, as well as the operator of our own tour, Ranger Safaris.
We believe Ranger Safaris probably is the largest safari tour operator in Tanzania.
