Ramoji Film City Excursion
22 January 2008
We toured Ramoji Film City, an imitation of the Universal Studios theme parks in the United
States, but more oriented to actual movie production.  Ramoji Film City is located about
25km (15 miles) from Hyderabad and occupies a nicely landscaped area of about 800
hectares (2,000 acres).   In addition to a large complex of outdoor movie sets and indoor
studio facilities we saw demonstrations of various movie-making techniques, stunt shows,
comedy and dance performances, also a number of outdoor thrill rides.
The Ramoji organization produces only a small fraction of the movies made at Film City.
Ramoji mainly rents their outdoor sets,  studios, and other facilities and equipment on a daily
basis to any actual or would-be movie producer.   Thousands of movies have been produced at
Ramoji Film City.
During our day at Ramoji Film City we saw thousands of Indian tourists but not a single other
foreigner..  It was a good but somewhat amateurish fun day for us but we enjoyed seeing so
many Indians, mostly families, having a great holiday.
Upon returning from Ramoji Film City to our hotel we bought tickets for Southern Travels'
Hyderabad City Tour, Rs. 150 (US$4) each.
