Riga to Tallinn, Estonia
We left our hotel in Riga about 10:00am and after about 45 minutes we stopped at the
Ethnographic Open Air Museum consisting of a group of farm houses from the 1700's and
1800's; the "museum" would have been much more interesting if the staff wore period
costumes and demonstrated the creation of some of the crafts of that time.
On our bus we continued north along the coast to the Estonian border where we went through
an immigration procedure similar to that of the Lithuanian-Latvian border.
For lunch we stopped at a tourist-bus-oriented roadside restaurant near Parnu, Estonia's
leading beach resort.  Unfortunately we did not get to see the town or the beach.
As in Lithuania and Latvia, the landscape we saw in Estonia was very flat, covered by young
forests and scattered meadows, with few towns or villages.  We saw a few cows but no real
herds of cattle;  perhaps the cattle were kept in barns and fed hay.  It seemed that almost
no vegetables or fruits were grown.
We arrived in Tallinn about 5:30pm and checked into the Domina Ilmarine Hotel located just
outside the northern city gate of the "Old Town".
