Udaipur, Rajasthan, India
The morning after our arrival we walked to the City Palace, a huge palace
complex of several palatial buildings overlooking Lake Pichola. Part of the City
Palace comples remains the private home of the Maharajah of Udaipur, another
part is now a luxury hotel, and a third part is occupied by the City Museum. We
enjoyed visiting the City Museum, which displays extensive collections of the
palace's furnishings and decorations.
The following day we went on a boat cruise on Lake Pichola to Jagmandir Island with its
palace complex. On the way back we also got beautiful views of the City Palace on the
shore and of the famous Lake Palace (converted into a luxury hotel) on its own island.
We had an enjoyable lunch with wonderful views at the rooftop Ali Baba Restaurant
near our hotel. Because exotic Udaipur looks so much like a city from "Arabian Nights"
it was selected as alocation for filming the James Bond movie “Octopussy”.
