Uglich
16 June 2008
At about 8:00am our cruise ship docked at the historic Volga River town of Uglich,
population 38,000, which like many towns in Russia is noted for its churches and monasteries
In Uglich our group went on a guided walking tour, visiting a few of the churches..  Then on
our own we visited the public market, which looked neat and clean.  Between two rows of
souvenir stands we walked back to our ship, which sailed about noon.

Endless souvenir stands near the docks.
In the afternoon our tour
escorts led a group discussion
about Russia today.  It was a
very informative session, well
presented.
We also went on a tour of the engine room, which looked very clean and well-organized.  Two
views of the engine room are below.
In the evening we enjoyed the "Captain's Gala Dinner".  As we entered the dining room the
Captain stood at the door, shaking everyone's hand.  Later he visited each table, offering a
toast.  Below is a photo of our table companions, taken during the dinner.
At the "Captain's Dinner".  Our table throughout the cruise from left to
right consisted of Mario, Virginia, Maria, Karen, Eric, and Sherrie.
Virginia and I were very fortunate to have such enjoyable companions.
That night in the bar a fun amateur show was presented by many of the passengers.  After
that, another performance by the ship's folk song and dance ensemble.
