Varanasi
November 2003
Varanasi, located on the banks of the sacred Ganges, is India's holiest city.  For many
millions of devout Hindus Varanasi is a city to come under the spell of religious gurus, to
wash away your sins in the waters of the , to pray,  to die, to be cremated, and to have
your ashes cast into the most sacred of waters.  Varanasi is a very important pilgrimage
site.
By bus we were driven past many temples, shrines, monuments, old buildings housing
pilgrims, and the narrow streets with crowds everywhere.   An unforgettable experience!
Very early the following morning we were driven to the banks of the Ganges for a sunrise
boatride on the river.  Below are a few views of what we saw.
In the afternoon we flew from Varanasi to Kathmandu, Nepal's capital and largest city.
On the way we got beautiful views of the snow-caped Himalayas.
